"Women are generating a cultural tide in American agriculture that is moving management, assets and opportunities to a new wave of beginning farmers and ranchers across the country. This project brings educational teams or working groups together to benefit women beginning, mid-career, and retiring farmers and ranchers in 20 states.

MarketMaker is a national partnership of land grant institutions and State Departments of Agriculture dedicated to the development of a comprehensive interactive data base of food industry marketing and business data. It is currently one of the most extensive collections of searchable food industry related data in the country.

The project will expand the nation's first agricultural Individual Development Account (IDA) pilot programs to 8 states in order to assist beginning farmers in building an asset base for land purchases and capital expenditures.

PROGRAM NO LONGER RUNNING The Sowing the Seeds of Hope program (1999-2010) provided behavioral health services to uninsured, underinsured and other at-risk farm and ranch families and agricultural workers. Seven states (Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin) formed the regional program in 1999.

The Savings Incentive Program is designed to help beginning farmers to save $100 a month for two years; after which, SIP will match their savings 1:1. The beginning farmer can then use this savings to purchase a farm asset (like machinery, land, or livestock).

"This guide is written to assist landowners in understanding their role as a landlord and a steward of the land, encourage open communication between landowner and tenant, and ultimately aid in the development of a lease agreement that is beneficial to the landowner, the farmer, the community, and the land."

The Sustainable Agricultural Land Tenure Initiative's work focuses primarily on the relationship between sustainable agriculture and land tenure in the United States, with a focus on the tenancy landscape and correlating laws, publications, and organizations in the State of Iowa.

Practical Farmers of Iowa specializes in farmer-to-farmer networking through demonstrations, field days, an annual conference, pasture walks, interactive online seminars (Farminars), and more.

"The Next Generation Program is designed to help Practical Farmers of Iowa's beginning farmer members thrive and help farm families transition their farm to the next generation.

The Center partners with Iowa State University’s College of Business and the Graduate Program in Sustainable Agriculture for a graduate assistantship in sustainable agriculture. Conducts field days, workshops, and education and demonstration projects.
