The Countryside Conservancy was established in 1999 as a cooperating partner of Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP) to rehabilitate and revitalize the old farms still surviving within park boundaries. Since then, they have expanded to include a variety activities to establish and maintain local food systems.

Future Harvest CASA initiated its Beginner Farmer Training Program (BFTP) in 2012, in partnership with Maryland Agricultural Resource Council (MARC). The program is focused on training Chesapeake-region farmers on managing a sustainable family farm operation. There are currently 10 trainees in the program for 2012.

Farm families risk losing their farms when estate and farm succession planning is nonexistent or stalled. Everyone has a plan, whether default or intentional. The default plan is designed by the state law where the farm family lives and the property is located. The intentional plan is one designed by farm families to carry out their wishes.

We have crated a learning and production program that uses elements and strategies that are easy and inexpensive to implement, keep and mange while providing fast returns and multiple marketing opportunities (poultry, small ruminants and agroforestry) while using ecologically and financially sustainable strategies.
